As conflict grew between the SCO and the burgeoning corporate alliances that would become the UPS, the SCO contracted Astrojinx to begin constructing a line of cruisers that could serve both as powerful warships and independent research and exploration vessels.
The Galaxian-class fit the bill nicely, sporting heavy armor, batteries of heavy weapons, and ample bays for storing and servicing strike craft and corvettes. Besides its merits as a warship, it also housed expansive laboratories, sensor equipment, and state-of-the-art Zipp Drive.
Although it is feared as the most powerful and versatile capital ship of the SCO navy, most agree that its military potential has hardly ever been pushed to its limit.

The Galaxian's deck layout is simple enough to understand with its main decks running from stern and widening at the bow's sensor and navigation head. However, the majority of the ship's laboratories and habitat bays are housed inside the ship's four wards, which are large structures extending from the ventral and dorsal hull and also support the armored wings. At the midship, hangar and docking bays can service a variety of military, science, or support craft. The command and operations decks are housed deep in the center of the craft, making it both safe from attack and difficult to board. While the armored wings provide a wide surface area, they have little more in the way of interior decks aside from narrow maintenance corridors.
