Faemer-class Pod

The Faemer-class pod, more commonly called the Utility Pod, is the oldest class of spacecraft in use today.

Its small and adaptable frame was originally designed by early explorers for excursions away from a mothership. Over time, it was fitted with hardpoints on which could be mounted tools, manipulator arms, or even weapons.

The Faemer's ability to be adapted for a variety of purposes, and being cheap to produce, is often purchased in bulk by companies for salvage, mining, construction, or repair.

Most utility pods lack a main engine, relying solely on maneuvering thrusters for propulsion. Most don't have life support systems, and some are slaved to their mothership so that they can run a programmed routine, or simply be piloted remotely.

Some desperate fleets have refit Faemer's with armor, weapons, and engines, to serve as makeshift fighter craft. Another uncommon variant mounts the body on mechanical legs for use on a planet's surface.

No company has exclusive rights to produce the Faemer, and in fact many utility pods currently in-use are constructed in-house by organizations. As a result, there are many variants. Not all of which are recommended for commercial use.
