The Khachugga-class breach pod uses a modified Yassmij frame with an extendable docking port, plasma-cutter mandibles, and a magazine of shaped explosives, all for the purpose of bypassing sealed docking hatches, or creating a breach in a ship's hull large enough for the pod's crew to enter.
The Khachugga's specific purpose makes it an excellent addition to system police fleets, salvage operations, and are naturally favored by pirates and thieves, for whom direct and aggressive boarding is often necessary.
Although the Khachugga relies on a destructive method for gaining entry to a vessel, it is notoriously difficult to track and defend against. Its lack of a main engine makes signature nearly invisible to passive scanners, and even when latched to the exterior hull of a ship, is small enough not to alert topographical scans. Whether it breaches at a docking ring or point on the hull, its adaptive seal prevents depressurization, both making it safer for its crew to board, while also preventing interior sensors from sealing the area and alerting the crew. That said, the act of breaching can be very loud, particularly on smaller vessels.
