Surface rovers have been in use since early space travel, although their power, range, habitability, and utility have expanded a lot.
Current models use a heavy frame with six tecton-weave tires on independent suspension. At the front of the vehicle is a pressurized cabin for a small crew and at the back is a cargo area with a rear hatch. Mounted in the center is a small utility hardpoint that is normally used for a crane but can be equipped with a weapon system instead.
Rovers are so versatile that they have been converted into light assault vehicles, farming tractors, cargo transport, resource extractor, mine layers, and repair vehicle. The most common variant is the surface transport with an expanded cabin.

The rover's cab contains two compartments that can each be independently pressurized. The first is a storage and passenger compartment that has exterior hatches to either side of the vehicle as well as the cargo bed. The second compartment seats the pilot and instruments. This allows for crew to embark and disembark without depressurizing the cockpit.
